Behind the Scenes – Memorial Cup 2023
Quebec Remparts take the cup! The four-team round-robin ice hockey tournament was held at the Sandman Centre in Kamloops, British Columbia from May 26th-June 4th 2023. Not only did DW owners Wayne and Ben partake as dedicated fans in the tournament, but they were also proud supporters.
For the tournament to take place the Sandman Centre needed a temporary structure that would allow more room for spectators and media coverage. DW Builders was the right crew for the job. We began construction in early 2023 to ensure the project was complete in time for the tournament. We built a temporary structure that was visually pleasing and easily accessible for both the spectators above and below. The structure provided the perfect above ice view for media companies such as TSN and local news outlets.
Not only was DW a part of the construction for the Memorial Cup, but we have also been working on renovations to the building for the several years leading up to the big event. We previously renovated the commercial kitchen, locker rooms, and player hallways, closed the exterior doorways and created the loge seating above the ice. The newest renovation being new sinks and countertops in both the Men and Women’s washrooms.
Both Wayne and Ben feel proud to have been a part of a project that was enjoyed and viewed by so many, and to be a part of such a big event in our community. Now unfortunately our hometown team did not take the cup, although they put up a fight and brought so many members of our community together on the ice.
