DW Builders Selected for Restoration of Historic St. Andrews on the Square in Kamloops, BC

DW Builders is honoured to be working with the City of Kamloops on the restoration of St. Andrews on the Square, the city’s oldest public building, following the fire that damaged the 136-year-old landmark in May 2024.

Located at 159 Seymour Street, St. Andrews on the Square has long been a cornerstone of Kamloops’ cultural and community life. The fire, although quickly contained, left the interior of the church with significant damage from both fire and water. Since then, the building has remained closed while remediation work was undertaken. With restoration now set to begin, DW Builders has been selected to bring this important heritage site back to life.

Restoration efforts will include rebuilding interior walls, floors, washrooms, and the kitchen while carefully preserving and reinstating heritage features such as pews, stained glass, and period lighting that were salvaged after the fire. Archival photographs, historical records, and community input are being used to guide the restoration, ensuring authenticity and attention to detail.

The project will also incorporate modern upgrades, including high-speed internet and enhanced building systems, enabling the space to support a broader range of community events and virtual participation in gatherings such as weddings, concerts, and memorial celebrations.

This project is more than a rebuild—it’s about honouring history while building for the future. Our team is deeply committed to preserving the heritage and character of St. Andrews on the Square while making the necessary upgrades to ensure its use for generations to come. We recognize the significance of this project to the Kamloops community, and we are proud to play a role in its renewal.

The City of Kamloops has set an ambitious goal of reopening St. Andrews on the Square by the end of 2025, in time for the Christmas season.
